“G’day legends!
We’re delighted to announce that we’ll be running a full-contact, 7-8 week SUPBALL competition from the 10th of February, right up until the end of daylight savings.
In keeping with the greater trend of 2020/2021 (that being, that little has returned to normal) the 2021 season will be run slightly differently to previous years.
Please read the following carefully, as several large changes have been made to ensure such a condensed season will still run smoothly.
1. SUPBALL COMMUNITY ONLY
As there will only be one division this season, this competition will only be available to our existing SUPBALL community.
2. 8 FLEXIBLE TEAMS, 8 RIGID CAPTAINS
Unfortunately, there will only be 8 team slots available this year, but to keep as many of you involved as possible, we’re relaxing team rigidity, and placing the onus of fielding a team on your captains.
To secure a place in the competition, teams will need to decide on a captain who will register on their behalf.
Once registered, these captains will be responsible for fielding a team of 5 players (minimum) each Wednesday (from 10th of February to the 24th of March) as well as for any back-up games and of course, for any finals matches that their team qualifies for.
As teams are flexible this season, captains can pull any player (adults only) in to ensure a team of at least 5 is fielded.
3. WHO CAN BE A CAPTAIN?
To be eligible as a team captain, candidates must have at least two full SUPBALL seasons under their belt, and be fully committed to fielding a team of 5 for all games that their team is scheduled for.
4. HOW THIS COMPETITION WILL LOOK, ON THE DAY
Rather than paying a registration fee, players will only pay for the games that they play. A flat rate of $20 per game will be paid each Wednesday, prior to hitting the water.
No pay on the day = no play on the day.
5. TRAINING SESSIONS
Training sessions will be available on Monday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings at $20 per session. These must be pre-booked.
6. TEAM NAMES
To save a little time, paper, and plastic this season, team names will be randomly selected from previously decommissioned team names.
7. SPECTATING
As always, spectators are more than welcome, however, this season we’ll be slightly restricted. In keeping with COVID restrictions we can’t have any non-players on the Manly Kayak Centre Wharf. All spectators are, of course, still encouraged to come show their support from either the beach, the grass at East Esplanade, or Manly Wharf Hotel.
8. COMPETITION DATES AND TIMES:
Comp Games: Wednesdays, 5:30pm and 6:15pm
Back-up Games: Following Tuesdays, 5:30pm and 6:15pm
Finals: Sunday 28th of March, running as follows:
SEMI FINAL 1- 4:00pm
SEMI FINAL 2- 4:45pm
(30 minute break)
GRAND FINAL- 6:00pm
Back-up Finals Date 1: Friday 2nd of April:
SEMI FINAL 1- 5:30pm
SEMI FINAL 2- 6:15pm
(30 minute break)
GRAND FINAL- 7:30pm
Back-up Finals Date 2: Saturday 3rd April
SEMI FINAL 1- 4:00pm
SEMI FINAL 2- 4:45pm
